The Atlanta Braves signed All-Star closer Will Smith last November. Smith could potentially challenge Mark Melancon for the closer’s job. Last season, Smith went 6-0 with a 2.76 ERA in 63 games for the San Francisco Giants. Smith was born in Newman, Ga., and grew up in the Atlanta area. He could have concluded that the Braves’ offer was the best one, but he is a great fit for the organization.
