The Cincinnati Reds selected Ashcraft in the first round of the 2018 Rule 5 Draft. The Reds had previously scheduled Overton to start the series finale in Toronto, but he was scratched because of back soreness. Thankfully, Ashcraft was selected by the Reds on Friday, and he will be making his first career start on short notice. While it’s not yet clear what the problem is with Overton, Ashcraft could still be in the rotation if Overton hits the injured list. His ERA is currently 2.49, with a 1.56 WHIP.
