When Xander Bogaerts made his major league debut on Aug. 20, he wasn’t considered an All-Star and was simply playing his part without garnering much attention. His confidence in his skills was mixed at best. But as a youngster, he played more in Curacao than in Boston, so his confidence in his own game didn’t suffer. In fact, his confidence level shot up as he made more frequent appearances in the Dominican league than in the big leagues.
