Matt Barnes is a setup man for the Boston Red Sox. Despite being a setup man, Barnes is an important part of the team’s bullpen. Last year, he struck out 39 percent of batters he faced and nearly half of those balls went for groundballs. His curveball is effective on both sides of the plate and he has struck out 78 batters in 153 at-bats. His ERA is 2.36 and his WHIP is a shade over one. He has also thrown a few home runs, but that is to be expected. For now, Matt Barnes should be a backup for Brandon Workman, which is why he has been so useful.
