The Atlanta Braves designated right-hander Tyler Thornburg for assignment on Friday. The right-hander, who signed a two-year, $900,000 deal with the team in the offseason, has been on the disabled list since undergoing Tommy John surgery last summer. While Thornburg has pitched well in the Grapefruit League, he missed all of the 2018 season while recovering from the procedure. In nine appearances in 2019, he failed to cement a spot on Atlanta’s major league roster.
