With a healthy body and excellent control of his pitches, McCarthy has the potential to be a very productive major league pitcher. His recent success in Triple-A has been a major plus. He has improved his power and shown a knack for extra-base hits. He has a good approach at the plate, but he needs to improve his ability to elevate the ball. This will be his main challenge this season. Although he has struggled to find the plate, he does have excellent power and a solid approach.
